An officer of Egypt's Central Security Forces was killed and two conscripts injured in an attack by unknown assailants on Thursday night.
A security source in North Sinai told Al-Ahram's Arabic news website that the unknown assailants attacked the patrol assigned to guard a border checkpoint south of the Rafah crossing then fled the scene.
Lieutenant Ramy El-Galaly, 28-years-old, died of gunshot wounds after he was transferred to the military hospital. Two CSF conscripts were also injured.
Since the ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi on 3 July 2013, attacks against police and army forces have spiked – especially in the North Sinai Governorate – leaving hundreds of officers and soldiers injured and killed.
