Several activists and intellectuals met at the Press Syndicate on Saturday to attend the first meeting of a new initiative, the Popular Committee for the Constitution, aimed at drafting a new constitution after thousands of signatures were collected supporting this demand.
Mahmoud Abd El-Reheem, the general coordinator of the committee, said that the first session was dedicated to launching the initiative, which is expected to run for two months and to discuss whether a parliamentary, a presidential or mixed system is best suited for the country’s future.
The committee’s members include Judge Zakareia Abd El-Aziz, Nour Farhan, Tharwat Badawy, Awatef Abd El-Rahman, former head of Al-Azhar Fatwa Committee Gamal Qutb, film maker Ali Badrakhan, Gamal Zahran and Yehia El-Kazzaz.
