Wafd officially withdraws from election runoffs

The Wafd Party decides not to run in the second round of Egypt's legislative elections, leaving the door open for candidates elected to enter parliament as independents.

Following a meeting of the Wafd Party's Executive Bureau and the Higher Committee, the party has decided, by 13 votes to 1, to withdraw from the second round of the Egyptian legislative elections.

The party has decided to leave it to Wafd MPs who won in the first round to decide whether to enter parliament as independents.
