An extra day has been added to the holiday for the end of Ramadan, with state employees now off from Monday to Thursday

Egypt's Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab has extended the official holiday period for Eid Al-Fitr by an extra day, with the vacation now from Monday to Thursday of next week, Al-Ahram's Arabic news website reported.

Mahlab said all those working in governmental institutions will take four days off -- instead of three, as originally planned.

Eid Al-Fitr, which falls on 28 July this year, marks the end of the month of Ramadan, when Muslims worldwide fast from dawn to sunset.
