A handmade explosive device detonated at a park in the Upper Egyptian city of Maghagha early Tueseday without causing any deaths or injuries, Al-Ahram's Arabic news website reported.
The primitive device went off inside a park that is near two schools.
Explosives experts headed to the site to inspect the area and search for other devices, according to security forces.
Egypt was hit with a wave of bombings and violence in the aftermath of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi's ouster in July of last year. However, the attacks have since become sporadic due to a strong crackdown by security forces against Morsi's supporters and Islamist sympathisers.
