Reporters Without Borders has identified 38 nations that "prey on the media," including four that are undergoing pro-democracy uprisings: Libya, Syria, Yemen and Bahrain.
The Paris-based media advocacy group says its 2011 list, published on Tuesday's World Press Freedom Day, criticizes governments that repress the media, including violence against journalists and hostility toward civil liberties.
Tunisia, whose leader was ousted by an uprising in January, has been removed from the list after years as a mainstay.
Other "press predators" listed include the militias of Honduran businessman Miguel Facusse Barjum who, Reporters Without Borders says, harass opposition media.
