Al-Ahram establishment is hosting the Editors' Lab Cairo on 12-13 November, where teams from some of Egypt's most prestigious news organisations will compete on developing a new prototype under the theme of "New tools to monitor the quality of government services".
The lab is organised by the Global Editors' Network (GEN) and the Egypt Media Development Program (EMDP), with the support of Google.
News organisations participating in the lab are Al-Ahram, Akhbar Al-Youm, Rose Al-Yousef, Al-Masry Al-Youm, Al-Youm Al-Sabea, Al-Tahrir, Middle East News Agency, Masrawy, Welad El-Balad and Dot Masr.
Each team from the different news organisations will consist of one reporter, one designer and one developer.
The teams will attempt to develop a prototype according to the lab's theme.
The Editors' Lab Cairo is part of the series of international hackdays leading to the Barcelona Hackathon to take place in June of next year.
The winning team will fly to Barcelona to compete in the finals.
In March's lab, a team from Akhbarak won for an application designed to help drivers cope with obstacles in the road.
