The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) said it expects cold weather in Cairo and Lower Egyptian governorates on Wednesday, a continuation of a drop in temperatures across the country this week.

Forecasters expect the abundance of low and medium level clouds across Egypt's northern coast and in North Sinai, which may extend south to Cairo with possible rain fall as well as early morning fog in Upper Egypt and the north of Lower Egypt.

Heavy rain in Cairo on Monday brought traffic in many parts of the capital to a standstill. Street flooding was reported in several Egyptian cities.

Brisk winds are expected to blow over Egypt's northeast, diminishing in the south.

The EMA set Cairo's temperature forecast at a high of 19 and a low of 12 centigrade. Alexandria on Egypt's north coast should see a high of 20 and a low of 16.

Southern cities will see warmer temperatures: 24 high and 17 low in South Sinai's Sharm El-Sheikh and 23 in Upper Egypt's Aswan, going down to a chilly 13 degrees.
