Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab inaugurated on Monday the completion of the first development phase of the Egyptian Musuem, Cairo governorate spokesperson Khaled Mostafa told Ahram Online.

The development consists of restoring the eastern halls of the museum, said Mostafa.

Mahlab said the European Union and Germany had provided aid for the development work.

“The restoration aims to return the museum to what it was like when it was built,” stated Mostafa.

Artifacts were stolen from the museum during the revolution in 2011, some of which were recovered earlier in 2014.

On a separate note, Mostafa told Ahram Online that Tahrir Garage would open in ten days, simultaneously with the completion of the restoration of the Tahrir Square area, as part of the development project of Khedivial Cairo.
