The families and friends of those killed during the January 25 Revolution in the Upper Egyptian city of Beni Sueif have gathered outside Minya’s Court Complex, demanding that the officers on trial inside for the deaths receive a punishment commensurate with their crimes.
Seventeen demonstrators were killed and 26 injured in Beni Sueif after security forces used live ammunition to shoot into the crowds in the early days of the revolution.
The trial was moved from Beni Sueif to Minya for security reasons.
Those on trial are former head of Beni Sueif Security Ahmed Shawky Abu Zeid, former head of Central Security Mohamed Abd El-Maqsoud, former head of Central Security Surveillance Mohamed Salah Othman, Head of Intelligence Office Mohamed Dabsh, and a number of other police officers.
