A conscript was injured and two unidentified bodies were found in two separate incidents in the North Sinai cities of El-Arish and Rafah respectively on Friday, a security source told Reuters' Aswat Masriya.
The conscript was taken to the hospital after an explosive device was detonated near a police station in El-Arish.
The security source told Aswat Masriya that the bodies were of two young men and are currently being identified by local tribes in the area.
It is likely that the men were kidnapped by unknown assailants and were killed for their cooperation with security forces, the security source said.
Several local men from North Sinai were killed and executed by Ansar Beit El-Maqdis, the Sinai-based militant group loyal to the Islamic State, for their cooperation with Egyptian security forces over the past few months.
Egypt’s army has been facing a decade-long jihadist militant insurgency in the Sinai Peninsula, with militant attacks increasing over the past year and expanding into Cairo and the Nile Delta, killing hundreds of army and police personnel. The military has responded with an intensive crackdown which it claims has killed and arrested hundreds of militants; the armed forces have also created a buffer zone in North Sinai’s border city of Rafah.
Many civilians have been caught up in the violence while others living in Rafah have been forced out of their homes.
