Streets in eastern Alexandria were flooded with sewage water on Monday, leading some residents to use jet skis and fishing boats to go about their business, or just to have fun.
A sewage pumping station in El-Montazah area broke down due to an electricity cut, filling the streets with sewage and rainwater, Al-Ahram Arabic news website reported. Thousands of citizens were stranded in their homes.
By late last night, most of the water on the streets had been removed, Alexandria governor Tarek El-Mahdy said, but work was still under way to clear water from garages and basements.
