Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met his Saudi Arabian counterpart on Wednesday in Paris where they discussed Egypt's upcoming economic conference and the unrest in Libya and Yemen.

Emir Saud Al Faisal told Shoukri that his country supports the Economic Development Conference scheduled in mid March in Sharm El-Sheikh, which Egypt expects will bring investments worth billions of dollars with a heavy Gulf investment share, an emailed statement from Egypt's foreign ministry said.

The two foreign ministers have also agreed on the importance of supporting the internationally-recognised Libyan government as the legitimate authority to defeat "terrorist organisations" – in reference to the Islamic State militant group which has been spreading in Libya.

Shoukry has reiterated his country's calls for lifting an ongoing arms embargo on the Libyan government.

Last Week, Egypt launched airstrikes against the IS group's targets in Libya’s Derna, in retribution for the beheading of 20 Christians in the troubled country. Libya said the strikes were in coordination with its national air forces.

Conditions in Yemen have also been discussed, as the situation is complicated further with the Houthi rebels' growing control in the capital. The national unity of Yemen and supporting its legitimacy should be a priority, the two ministers said.
