Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi is scheduled to visit Saudi Arabia on Sunday, ahead of a much-publicised economic conference in Egypt mid-March.
During his visit, El-Sisi is to meet with Saudi’s new king Salman, Crown Prince Muqrin and Saudi’s Interior Minister Mohammed bin Nayef.
In an interview with Al-Arabiya TV Channel on Saturday, El-Sisi said his visit to Saudi Arabia aims to develop discussion and coordination on current pressing issues important to both countries.
The visit comes ahead of an economic conference in mid-March to encourage businesses to invest in an Egyptian economy battered by four years of political turmoil.
Saudi’s late king Abdulla, who died in January, was one of El-Sisi's closest regional allies, providing Cairo with political and financial support following the ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi in the summer of 2013.
Saudi Arabia has been sponsoring ongoing reconciliation efforts between Egypt and Qatar.
