Bomb blast kills two and injures six in Upper Egypt

Two were killed and 11 injured in Upper Egypt’s Aswan on Sunday when an improvised bomb went off near a police station and next to the Al-Nasr Mosque near the Nile River, amid frequent attacks across the country, reported Al-Ahram Arabic news website.

The deceased are a woman and a young man, while a police conscript is among the injured.

The bomb was detonated via mobile phone and was meant to target a police patrol, according to an anonymous security source quoted by Al-Ahram.

Security forces have searched the area to make sure there are no more planted bombs.

Egypt has been hit with a cluster of bomb attacks since the 2013 ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi.

Most attacks usually target police personnel but more recent bombs tend to target civilians as well.
