Three policemen died and three others were injured in a bomb attack on their armored vehicle in Sheikh Zuweid, Al-Ahram Arabic news website reported.

Ambulances transported the injured policemen to the nearest hospitals in North Sinai.

The explosion on Monday comes days before an economic summit scheduled to take place on 13 March in Sharm El-Sheikh, South Sinai.

The last major attack in North Sinai injured two policemen in February when two-explosive laden cars detonated near a police station.

Egypt's military has been combatting a decade-long jihadist insurgency in Sinai, with attacks increasing over the past year. Hundreds of soldiers and police have been killed, while the army says it has killed and arrested hundreds of jihadists.
