The preparatory committee for the Egyptian National Council will announce on Tuesday the names of 180 members chosen for the council.
According to the committee, the members were chosen by popular committees, syndicates and political parties that participated in Egypt’s first national conference on 7 May.
The names of those selected will be announced by writer Gamal Fahmy, a member of the preparatory committee, and Mamdouh Hamza, the sponsor of the national conference.
The Muslim Brotherhood, Egypt’s largest opposition group, had declared they would not participate in the conference and thus will not be part of the national council.
The agenda of the national conference includes four main points: the basic principles of the new constitution; a vision for the future and the requisites of social justice; establishing unity among the various revolutionary forces ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections; and finally, establishing a national council of representatives of various political and revolutionary forces to support the fulfillment of the revolution's demands, give voice to the people's aspirations and ensure the achievement of these objectives.
