Security forces reopened the Cairo-Alexandria Agricultural Road early Monday after it was blocked for several hours by residents of Menoufiya's Kafr Hilal village.

The villagers, who blocked the freeway at  Berket Al-Sab city, were protesting the kidnapping of two girls, Al-Ahram Arabic news website reported.

Two teenage girls in their last year of high school have gone missing since Sunday noon with their mobile phones turned off.

Their parents received messages from unidentified people who demanded LE300,000 ($40,000) in ransom for each girl.

The families sought the help of the village's residents to pressure the authorities to intensify their search for the missing girls.

Security officials were notified and the prosecution ordered an investigation into the kidnapping incident.
