Ahram Online, Wednesday 25 May 2011

Egyptian ambassadors and ministers plan a visit to Benghazi for the first time since Gaddafi has been trying to violently quash a movement to oust him

An Egyptian ministerial delegation will head to the Libyan city of Benghazi to meet with members of the Transitional National Council, the political arm of the opposition group fighting to oust Muammar Gaddafi.

This will be the first ministerial delegation to visit the country after the start of the Libyan revolution on 17 February, 2011.

The delegation will include former Egyptian ambassador to Libya, Hany Khala and ambassador Ayman Musharrafa, deputy to the Egyptian foreign minister for North African affairs.

The delegation will discuss the situation of Egyptians who live there and the importance of ensuring their safety and protecting the property they own in the city. They will also discuss Libya’s future, the need to keep its national unity intact, as well as Egypt's role in the Libyan crisis and the need to keep an open dialogue with all factions.
