Egyptian police have arrested Iranian diplomat, Kassem Al Husseiny, on charges of espionage during the uprising against ousted president Hosni Mubarak.
Al Husseiny, who works in the Iranian Affairs Office in Cairo, was arrested a few days ago. The State Security Prosecution has begun questioning Al Husseiny and initial investigations allege that the Iranian diplomat gathered intelligence information about the recent events in Egypt and sent them to the Iranian intelligence agency.
Al Husseiny was also allegedly trying to recruit agents to work in Arab Gulf countries.
Taher El Kholy, the general attorney of the state security prosecution is overseeing the questioning of Al Husseiny, but it’s been reported that he will be deported within 72 hours.
