UPDATE: Roadside bomb hits civilian bus in North Sinai, injures three

Ahram Online , Monday 8 Jun 2015

Three civilians were injured on Monday in a bomb explosion near Sheikh Zuweid in North Sinai, Al-Ahram Arabic news website reported.

Health ministry undersecretary for North Sinai Tarek Khater told Ahram Online that a roadside bomb struck a bus carrying teachers on the Sheikh Zuweid Road.

Security sources told Al-Ahram Arabic news website that unknown individuals planted the bomb to target security forces.

Egypt’s army is battling an ongoing Islamist militant insurgency in North Sinai. Hundreds of security forces have been killed since the ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi in July 2013 and the military has also announced the killing and arrest of hundreds of “terror suspects.”

However, civilians have also been caught up in the violence.

In addition, three judges and their driver were killed in mid-May when gunmen opened fire on their vehicle in the North Sinai town of Al-Arish.
