A total of 5,609 Yemenis returned back to Sanaa from Cairo in recent days, the head of Yemenia Airlines's Cairo airport office told MENA state news agency on Thursday.
Sadek Abdel-Aziz said that the Yemeni national carrier had organised 33 flights recently to transfer its citizens from Cairo to Bishah airport in the southern Saudi city of Aseer, where the Yemeni passengers then take another flight to Sanaa airport in Yemen.
Thousands of Yemenis have been stranded in Cairo since the start of the Saudi military-led operation in Yemen against the Houthi rebel militants in March.
Initially the flights were operating daily, Abdel-Aziz said, but have since increased to twice or three times a day.
