Alexandria’s prosecutor renewed the detention of two correspondents charged with espionage in Egypt's coastal city

Alexandria’s general prosecutor has renewed the detention of two television correspondents charged with acts of espionage in Egypt’s coastal city.

Omar Dafallah and Khaled Awad, from Sudan and Jordan, respectively work for the Emerati channel Alaan and checked into an Alexandria hotel a fortnight ago.

Both were arrested after being accused of being spies and were detained for 15 days. Their detention period was doubled on Saturday, pending investigation.

The general prosecution is still gathering evidence and verifying facts.

The suspects’ sophisticated communication equipment was reportedly deemed evidence against them. The correspondents argue the equipment are simply the tools of their trade as journalists.
