President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi will start a tour of Asia on Sunday, visiting Singapore, China and Indonesia, the presidency said in a statement on Saturday.

"The tour aims at reflecting that Egypt's foreign policy is based on openness and cooperation with all the countries of the world, and aims to gain from the successful experiences of the economically emerging countries in south-east Asia," the statement read.

El-Sisi will meet with Singaporean President Tony Tan and Prime Minster Lee Hsien Loong, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Prime Minster Li Keqiang and finally he will hold talks with Indonesian President Joko Widodo.

The president will be the first Egyptian head of state to visit Singapore.

Meanwhile, El-Sisi's visit to Indonesia would be the first such visit by an Egyptian president since 1983.

Last week, the president visited Russia where he met with his counterpart Vladimir Putin, and announced that Russia will establish an industrial zone in Egypt and provide expertise to build a nuclear power plant in the country.

Correction: An earlier version of the report stated that El-Sisi's visit to Indonesia would be a first by an Egyptian president.
