A proposal for a new parliamentary and Shura Council law will be presented to the Cabinet on 29 June, says Deputy Prime Minister Yehia El-Gamal.
Gamal also said that there is a partial agreement that elections will be conducted under a synthesis of the proportional representation and first-past-the-post voting systems.
Gamal said this during a meeting with the Egyptian-American Coalition in the Diplomatic Club Sunday night. The meeting included a discussion about the participation of Egyptians living overseas during the upcoming parliamentary elections.
Earlier Monday, a military official shot down previous statements by Gamal that the parliamentary elections would be postponed to December. The official also stated that the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces plans to stick to the already agreed upon schedule which sets the elections for September.
