Egypt's armed forces published a report on Monday detailing recent activities by Egyptian border guards, announcing the arrest of 2,215 illegal migrants of varying nationalities in September.

The statement included a map showing where the illegal migrants were apprehended. They were mainly coastal areas including Matrouh, Saloum, Alexandria, Abu Qiir, Rashid and El-Borolos, suggesting that the migrants were trying to travel elsewhere via Egypt.

The Egyptian Army Spokesman Mohamed Samir also announced that border guards have seized 1067 smuggled weapons of various types and ammunition in September.

Samir also announced the seizure of over 10.5 tonnes of narcotics in a nationwide anti-narcotics campaign.

It had been months since the last Egyptian armed forces announcement concerning illegal migrants and smuggled weaponry.
