Egypt's 6 April Movement condemns National Security report claiming it seeks chaos

Ahram Online, Sunday 3 Jul 2011

Ahead of demonstrations planned for 8 July, the 6 April Movement insists that erroneous claims against it by National Security only show how valid are calls for the Interior Ministry to be overhauled

The general coordinator of the 6 April Movement, Ahmed Maher, has dismissed a National Security apparatus report published in Youm7 newspaper claiming the movement plans to storm prisons and create chaos. Maher said the claim is completely false and aims at inciting fear ahead of demonstrations due to take place on 8 July, dubbed "Persistence Friday".

Maher added that if indeed the report was issued by the National Security apparatus it only proves how necessary it is to cleanse the Ministry of Interior together with all its subsidiary institutions, which is the focus of the planned protests on 8 July. Mahar said that the 6 April Movement would demand that the interior minister order an immediate investigation into which officers are responsible for issuing the report.

Maher said the allegations came as a response to the open sit-in that started Tuesday in Tahrir Square following clashes between protesters, the families of the martyrs of the January revolution, and the police, and only aim at discouraging the people from participating in additional protests, especially the poor.

Maher added that the movement is known for choosing peaceful means of political action and completely refusing violence.
