Field Marshal Tantawi's meeting with General Mattis tackled the latest developments in the region, changes in the regional and international arenas during the current phase and addressed a number of topics and issues of common concern such as military cooperation and the excellent relations linking the two countries.
The commander of U.S. Central Command expressed his country's keenness to support the process of political and democratic transition Egypt is currently going through. The meeting also discussed enhancing military cooperation, which constitutes the backbone of the Egyptian-American strategic relations in achieving regional security in the Middle East.
Sami Annan, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces and Vice-President of the Supreme Council, also met with Mattis as they reviewed a number of issues related to cooperation, joint training and continuing channels of communication between the two sides to achieve balance in securing common interests and mutual commitments.
A number of senior leaders of the armed forces, along with the US Ambassador in Cairo, also attended the meeting.
