The Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) released two statements following clashes that took place late Friday night in several of Egypt’s governorates, including Cairo, Alexandria and Suez.

SCAF's first statement denied that any violence had been used by the military against demonstrations in any of Egypt’s cities, adding that the 6 April Youth Movement has been seeking to create strife between the military and the people, but that the attempt had failed. It called on people to be cautious of such attempts in the future.

Shortly after, SCAF released another statement, thanking those who acted as shields between the army and protestors, stopping potential strife and avoiding having the military appear as attacking the nation.

The statement angered several political movements currently staging a sit-in in Tahrir Square who released a statement condemning the military council’s accusations against the 6 April Movement.
