Egypt's civil aviation minister Hossam Kamal met with the chairman of Russia’s investigative committee Alexander Bastrykin Monday in Cairo, according to a civil aviation ministry statement issued late Monday.
The Russian delegation included officials from the ministries of emergency and aviation.
The meeting was attended by Ayman El-Moqaddem, head of the international committee tasked to investigate Russian Metrojet's crash on 31 October, which took the lives of all 224 people on board.
The two sides discussed how to best proceed with the investigations while exchanging information regarding the technical investigation into the crash.
According to the statement, Bastrykin praised the efforts Egypt has made since the crash occurred, such as stepping up security procedures at all airports.
Russia announced last Tuesday that the plane crashed in central Sinai due to a bomb, but this has not been confirmed by the Egyptian authorities heading the investigation.
Egypt later said that investigations are still ongoing and that it will take Russia's statements into consideration.
"[Bastrykin] affirmed that the international investigative committee's work should go on and insisted on cooperation and coordination between the Egyptian and Russian sides until the investigation is completed," the statement read.
Flights from Cairo to Moscow have been halted as per Russia's decision.
