An Egyptian military court adds 15 days to the detention time of former prime minister ‎Ahmed Nazif

Ahmed Nazif

A military court decided on Monday to add 15 days to the detention time of former prime minister ‎Ahmed Nazif. ‎

Nazif has become the first deposed regime figure to be ‎referred to a military court. He is ‎accused of abusing his power, along with ex-‎Luxor governor Samir Farag, to facilitate ‎the selling of an army-owned ‎piece of land ‎to businessman Mamdouh Philip. ‎

Recently-revealed investigations indicated that Nazif and Farag directly ordered the ‎‎selling of the land to Philip for a negligible price - a deal ‎that resulted in a loss of public ‎funds of LE 60 million (over $10m).‎

The land was originally designated for an Olympic swimming pool.‎

Nazif is indicted on multiple charges of squandering public funds and has been detained ‎for months pending trials and investigations. ‎
