Ahram Online , Saturday 19 Dec 2015

In 2014 over 6000 people were killed in road accidents while more than 14,000 were injured

Three people were killed and seven injured in a traffic accident on Saturday in the coastal governorate of Matrouh, Al Ahram Arabic news website reported.

The accident took place on the north coast sea highway when a microbus over-turned.

Earlier this month, two were killed in a collision when a truck collided with a tractor on a main road north of the Nile Delta governorate of Kafr El-Sheikh, about 130 km (80 miles) north of Cairo.

‪According to figures by Egypt's Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS), a total of 14,403 road accidents in the country in 2014 led to the death of 6,226 people and the injury of 24,154 others.

‪Traffic accidents in Egypt are often blamed on bad driving, poor infrastructure and loosely enforced traffic regulations.
