Check point in North Sinai (Reuters)
A bomb exploded in North Sinai’s Al-Arish on Sunday near a hotel that witnessed the killings of judges supervising parliamentary polls last month.
No casualties were reported from this blast, North Sinai's Deputy Health Minister Tarek Khater told Ahram Online.
The bomb was detonated near the same hotel where seven people, including judicial officials and security personnel, were killed last November during an attack on the hotel where the judges supervising parliamentary polls were residing.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for Sunday’s bombing.
Over the past two years, Ansar Beit Al-Maqdis, which pledged allegiance to Islamic State group, has claimed responsibility for a number of attacks.
Egypt has been fighting an Islamist militant insurgency in North Sinai that has claimed the lives of hundreds of security personnel.
Hundreds of militants have also reportedly been killed in army campaigns in the governorate.
