Egyptians want governors replaced immediately, says govt survey

The prime minister's office outlines citizens' satisfaction levels with their governors

Ahram Online, Thursday 28 Jul 2011

Citizens in four of 27 governorates in Egypt are satisfied with the performance of their current governors and think they should not be replaced; Meanwhile, in 20 governorates the majority of the population thinks that their governors, most of whom were only appointed to their posts last April, should be replaced immediately, says Ahmed El-Samman, the media advisor to Egypt's prime minister. Referring to a survey that was conducted by the government, El-Samman says that in three governorates people seem to be hesitant about the evaluation of their governors.

The results of the survey come a few days before the new governor reshuffle, which should be announced by the beginning of next week, according to the PM's office, to fulfill the demands of the political forces that have been criticizing the appointment of governors close to ousted president Mubarak's ruling party or former officers in the minister of interior.

Ahram Online learned that more than 70 per cent of the governors will be replaced.
