A nine-year-old girl was killed and her 10-year-old brother was injured on Monday when their house collapsed in the Upper Egypt governorate of Qena, state news agency MENA reported.

The old house that collapsed in a village south of the city of Qena late on Sunday was made of mud brick and palm trunks — materials commonly used to build houses in impoverished rural areas in Egypt.

Around forty percent of Egypt's burgeoning population of 90 million live in poverty, many of whom reside in Upper Egypt.
