The 2010-2015 Egyptian Parliament has re-elected the National Democratic Party's (NDP) Fathi Sorour as its speaker. Sorour won with 505 votes out of 506. The only one to vote against Sorour was Mohamed Abdelaal, head of Social Justice Party, who was also running for the position. Sorour's victory was also welcomed by the current parliament members. The NDP gained a sweeping victory in the parliamentary elections earlier this month.
