Egypt's Minister of Interior Mansour El-Eissawy announced that anyone who hands in an ‎unlicensed or stolen police firearm to the authorities will not be legally questioned and will ‎also get the opportunity to issue a personal defense gun license through simplified procedures. ‎

The interior ministry announced two phone lines (+2 24888888 and 24884500) to facilitate ‎the delivery of  unlicensed weapons and also to introduce the procedures for getting a ‎gun license.

A multitude of guns have been stolen from police stations during the turmoil of Egypt's January 25 Revolution and many of them have not yet been found nor restored.

The black market for unlicensed firearms has increasingly grown since then, as well.
