A military funeral will be held for former UN secretary-general Boutros Ghali in Egypt, state news agency MENA reported Tuesday. 

Military funerals are held in Egypt for current or former military personnel and occasionally for the recipients of the 'Order of the Nile' distinction, the highest honour bestowed by the Egyptian state.

The former minister of state for foreign affairs received the Order of the Nile in 2012.

The funeral will be held next Thursday in Cairo.
