Military and police forces patrolled the Mar Mina Church in Cairo’s Shubra district after its priest received threats that the church will be burnt down. The threats came following sectarian clashes in the areas on Thursday.
Security sources say that the clashes erupted after a Christian man alleged harrassed a Muslim woman. The clashes resulted in the killing of a thirty-year-old Muslim man.
While tensions have calmed down in the area, fears still linger that they may erupt again. Inhabitants of the area are going around warning people to avoid being dragged into sectarian fights. Several have participated with members of the Revolution Youth Coalition in securing the church.
