US Secretary of State John Kerry arrived in Cairo for a brief visit on Wednesday to hold talks with Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, state news agency MENA reported.
A press conference that was due to be held featuring both foreign ministers was cancelled due to "time constraints", the Egyptian presidency announced on Tuesday.
Kerry's visit will last for only a matter of hours. The officials will discuss bilateral ties and regional issues, the State Department said.
Kerry arrived in Cairo from New York where he held talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad to discuss the implementation of the Iran nuclear deal as well as regional issues including ending Syria's civil war.
Kerry is due to fly to Riyadh on Thursday to join President Obama at the Gulf Cooperation Council Summit.
