Turkish PM and Grand Imam discuss the Arab Spring, cooperation between Turkey and Al-Azhar

Turkey’s Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan met Egypt’s Grand Imam Ahmed El-Tayeb in Al-Azhar Sheikhdom on Tuesday.

The meeting was attended by Egypt’s Minister of Religious Endowments, Mahmoud Abdel Fadeel, Egypt’s Grand Mufti, Ali Gomaa, the General-Secretary of the Islamic Research Centre, Ali Abdel Baky, as well as the head of Al-Azhar University, Osama El-Abd. A Turkish delegation which is accompanying Erdogan on his visit, also attended the meeting.

The group discussed current developments in the Arab and Muslim world, the future of cooperation between Al-Azhar and Turkey, as well as the changing political scene in the region following the Arab Spring.

Erdogan is visiting Egypt as part of an ‘Arab Spring tour’ that will also include Libya and Tunisia.
