A Cairo court ordered the release of Sherif El- Rouby, a 6 April Movement activist, on EGP 1,000 bail after he was charged with illegally protesting against the Egyptian-Saudi Red Sea island deal.
On 14 April, thousands of activists protested in front of the press syndicate headquarters in Cairo against the announcement by the Egyptian government that it was acknowledging Saudi sovereignty over the two Red Sea islands of Tiran and Sanafir, which are currently under Egyptian control.
Police arrested hundreds of protesters on that day and on 25 April, which marks Sinai Liberation Day.
The 6 April group founders, Ahmed Maher and Mohamed Maher, and its current coordinator Amr Ali are currently serving three-year prison sentences for breaking the country’s controversial protest law.
