Egypt’s environment ministry formed a team of nature reserve researchers from Hurghada and Sharm El-Sheikh to survey the site where a man was injured in a shark attack between Ain El-Sokhna and Zaafarana-Wadi El-Doum in the Red Sea.

The shark attacked an Egyptian man who was swimming by a fishing boat six kilometres offshore in Ain Sokhna on Saturday, according to Suez governor Ahmed Helmi El-Hiatmi.

The experts, led by the head of the Central Administration for Biological Diversity, will conduct a "quick evaluation" of the situation and issue recommendations, the environment ministry said.

The shark was identified as a mako shark, according to the ministry.
