Egypt's general prosecution has started questioning 15 detainees suspected of being involved in last night's violent attacks outside the Maspero broadcasting building in downtown Cairo, which left at least 24 dead and 213 injured.
According to, Adel El-Saeed, a spokesman for the prosecutor-general, the prosecution has also ordered autopsies be performed on the bodies of victims, whose funerals are expected to take place this afternoon. Forensic reports on the injured are also being made, says El-Saeed.
The detainees face charges of disturbing public security, inciting sectarian strife, using firearms without a license, attacking security men and murder.
Vioelnce erupted last night outside the State TV building when military police forcibly dispersed a peaceful protest in which thousands of Copts and Muslims were participating.
It is as yet unclear whether the general prosecution will be the sole authority in charge of the investigation, especially since Minister of Justice Mohamed El-Guindy said earlier that the military prosecution will hold an investigation into the violence and that all perpetrators will face military, not civilian, trials.
