Cairo’s Parliament Street has been closed since Saturday evening to stop protests from erupting there, a security official has revealed.
According to the official, the street, which is close to Tahrir Square, was closed after an increasing number of protests were held in front the parliament building.
Parliament Street hosts both houses of parliament and the cabinet offices, and has been a focus for protests by workers and public servants since 2010.
It is not yet clear how long the street will be closed.
