Lawyers staged on Thursday a sit-in protest outside the Lawyers Syndicate. The lawyers were protesting against the continued issuing of new licences to practice which they believe to be in violation of the Administrative Court’s ruling.
The protesters will continue their sit-in until the syndicate meets on the same issue. "The sit-in voices the rejection of the members of the front of the continued issuing of new licenses to practice despite the Administrative Court’s ruling," said Ibrahim Fekry, coordinator of front for the defence of judicial independence.
Fekry confirmed that members of the front are planning to meet next Sunday should the situation remain as it is.
Fekry added that he considers the syndicate to be bypassing the court’s authority, which does not fit with the syndicate’s status.
