Egyptian author Hussam Tammam dies, aged 37

Expert in Islamic movements, whose work appeared in this organ among other places, had faith that an Islamist government would not spring forth in Egypt out of the January 25 revolution

Egyptian writer and analyst Hussam Tammam passed away today, Wednesday, at the age of 37.

Tammam is one of the Arab world’s most respected experts and researchers on Islamic movements and Political Islam. He was also a renowned journalist who wrote for various publications, including Al-Ahram daily and Ahram Online.

Among his books are Islamic Movement in the World: Symbols, Experiments and Thoughts; and The Changes in the Muslim Brotherhood, Disintegration of Ideology and the End of Organisation.

Tammam was battling terminal illness for several months.
