Muslim Brotherhood political wing arranges press conference to respond to supra-constitutional principles communiqué

Brotherhood say communiqué grants too much power to the military over the drafting of Egypt's new constitution

Ahram Online , Wednesday 2 Nov 2011

The Freedom and Justice Party (FJP), the Muslim Brotherhood’s political wing, will hold a press conference on Wednesday to announce their stance on the supra-constitutional principles communiqué issued on Tuesday following a meeting between political forces and Deputy Prime Minister Ali El-Selmi.

The FJP, which boycotted yesterday’s meeting along with other Islamist parties, are opposed to any interference in the constitutional drafting process, and have long voiced opposition to any form of supra-constitutional principles.

The FJP will announce their position on the “communiqué’s negative repercussions on the basic principles of the Egyptian state and the formation of the constitution-founding committee (which will then select members of the constitution drafting committee).”

The Freedom and Justice Party has called on political forces sharing its stance on the communiqué to attend the press conference.
