Another 19 accused in Omraneya violence incidence released on Saturday

General Prosecutor released on Saturday another 19 copts in the Omraneya case.  So far only 23 are still detained.  

Another 42 of these detained were released on 20 December.

In total 133 were detained following demonstrations that erupted when the government suspended construction on a church in the area of Omraneya. Charges included the attempted murder of police officers and the intentional sabotage of public facilities.

On 24 November, fights broke out between hundreds of Copts and policemen after the construction of a service center inside a Church in Omraneya, Giza, was ordered to stop due to lack of a proper building permit. The violence led to the death of two Copts.
