Pope Francis is set to call for the end to the flow of arms and money to support acts of violence, in a speech at Al-Azhar headquarters scheduled for Cairo afternoon.
According to a copy of the speech obtained by Ahram Online, the head of the Roman Catholic Church, who is in Cairo for a historic two-day visit, will underline the need to pursue better education for all and to end poverty as necessary elements of the international effort to combat radicalism and promote peace.
The pope will address the closing session of a two-day international peace conference that is being hosted by Al-Azhar.
In his speech, Pope Francis will express gratitude for the opportunity to be in Egypt, "the land of civilisation; the land of the Nile river."
Pope Francis is also expected to stress the need for dialogue among civilisations and not just among religions.
